CEO, Atheer Cultural Center

​

Husam Abu Diab is an entrepreneur, filmmaker, and social innovator based in Jerusalem since 1991. Since June 2022, he has served as the CEO of Atheer Cultural Center, leading programs that empower young people through filmmaking, media, arts, and creative education. Under his leadership, Atheer has initiated numerous social and cultural programs that promote leadership, critical thinking, digital literacy, and artistic expression, giving youth in East Jerusalem opportunities to tell their stories and become active contributors to their communities.

Professional Experience

​

Throughout his career, Husam has developed and managed a wide range of creative projects, including social media campaigns, documentary films, short narrative films, and community-based media initiatives addressing important social issues. He believes that storytelling is a powerful tool for education, dialogue, and positive social change.

Before joining Atheer, he spent several years working with people with mental health diagnoses, leading media production and photography classes that encouraged creativity, self-expression, and personal development. He has also facilitated filmmaking workshops for more than 30 groups of youth at risk, using media as a tool to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

Youth Film Festival

​

Husam leads Jerusalem's first Youth Film Festival, an annual event showcasing films created by high school students from East Jerusalem. The festival provides young filmmakers with a professional platform to present their work, engage with industry professionals, and celebrate youth creativity. Today, more than 300 students participate in Atheer's filmmaking programs each year, with the organization aiming to reach over 500 students annually by 2027.
